Episode 419 : Islanded in a Stream of Stars
We begin sitting on the Dradis light table with Hera. She's playing "ram the basestar with Galactica." Then we're strolling down the halls of the opera house with Hera. As the dream unfurls we realize that yet again Hera, Athena, Roslin and Caprica are all having the same vision at the same time...some of them while awake!
In the repair area the Cylon and human workers are arguing amongst themselves about how to proceed.
A few of the powers that be are arguing about what to do about Hera's abduction. Ellen and Starbuck want to go look for her while Lee and Tigh think it's futile. Ellen insists that she believes Cavil would have had Boomer bring Hera to him at "the Colony," the base that the cylons called home when they aborted the Cylon war years ago. Starbuck insists that Hera is the key to everything and it's their destiny to find her. Adama replies "It's our destiny to go after her, right? Wrong! I've just about had it up to here with destiny, God or Gods. Look where it's left us. The ass end of nowhere!" After some more pleading from Ellen and company he agrees to send a recon patrol to look for the Colony.
Helo and Athena are in their quarters. Athena is in complete anguish as Helo tries to get her to open up to him. He wants her to say she hates him but all she can do is stare at him. Helo is distraught and storms off. During this whole opening segment Athena, Roslin and Caprica Six continue to share the waking vision of the opera house.
Adama is sitting in sick bay with Roslin when a hull breach opens up in the damaged area the Cylon and human crews are working in. In a truly beautiful and defining moment of dedication to their new life, a model Six sacrifices herself for many Cylons and human workers alike.
Back in sick bay the injured folks from the hull breach are being brought in. Dealino, fresh off being saved by a Six, tells Adama he believes the Galactica only has at most 5 jumps left in her. Roslin says to Adama "it must be tough saying goodbye to both of your women at once. You must feel like we're abandoning you." Adama says he won't lose either of his women. Roslin then drops into another hallucinatory vision of the opera house.
At a meeting of the new "Quorrum of Ships" Lee is addressing the shape of the Galactica and what his father's plans will be. The quorrum selfishly start arguing about who will get what pieces of the old girl. Lee screams that nothing will be taken from the ship until Admiral Adama says so. A quorrum member staes "I wonder what Gaius Baltar would say?" Lee incredulously says "Gaius Baltar?"
Gaius is back to sounding off on the wireless. This time he's speaking of angels being amongst them. He of course is speaking of the "head people." As he leaves his chamber he sees Caprica six and asks her to stay with him. She says "You haven't changed Gaius. Not Really. But I have."
In sick bay, Tigh is asked by Doc Cottle to come see an Eight that has been asking for him. As he grabs her hand she thanks him for letting her meet "her father." Tigh rebukes her saying he's tried to kill her kind his whole life. The Eight then says "there's too much confusion' and dies.
On the Raptor, Hera is crying for her mommy and Boomer is losing patience. She threatens Hera with a needle and the box again if she doesn't stop crying. Boomer starts to feel bad and stops before she harms the little girl.
The Tighs are arguing about just exactly Saul's people are. Ellen is trying desparately to convince him that he has always been a cylon and his people need him. He insists that he doesn't remember his past so he only knows his loyalty to the humans. Ellen tells him his children need him and he says "I had a child. He died." Ellen says he's wrong and that he has "millions of children." Tigh seems to stir a bit over that statement.
On the raptor, Boomer realizes Hera can project and see projections so she takes her to the house she made for her and Chief. She takes Hera upstairs to the child's room and Hera begins to play and calm down.
While Baltar shaves in the head, Kara talks to him while she does her business in the stall behind him. In defiance of her own unsure existence and denial that she may be angelic, she challenges Baltar with the knowledge of what she found on Earth and to discover if it really was her body she found.
Starbuck goes to see Sam and dismisses the eight that is watching over him. Sam has now been hardwired into a mobile Cylon data stream in attempts to help him heal and recover. Kara tells Sam about how sorry she was for ever saying she would shoot him if he was a Cylon and now all she wanted was for him to come back. She says he will always be "her Sam" and she pulls her side arm out to put him down. He comes alive and grabs her arm while jabbering in Hybridese. At the same time the Galactica comes to life, engines blazing, lights flickering. It seems the Cylon organic resin has allowed Sam to jack into the Galactica and serve as her Hybrid! Sam looks at Kara and repeats the prophecy of the old razor Hybrid. "You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end!"
Back in sick bay Adama is reading to Laura again. She tells him to turn to page 61. As he does he starts to snicker as she has stashed some New Caprican "special" tobacco there. They light up and reminisce about the cabin she longed to build. She tells Adama she's never felt more at home than she has with him the last several months on Galactica. She tells him that she knows he loves the old girl even more than her, but if they don't leave her soon he may lose them both.
Baltar is shown running tests on the dog tags and blood samples as Sam is shown still jabbering and controlling the Galactica. We discover that the power flickers are in sync with Sam blinking his eyes! Tigh is worried that Sam may jump the ship without warning like the female hybrid did before so he tells them to take him off line for now.
The recon team reports back that Cavil has moved the Colony about 5 months prior and they have no idea which direction they went in.
Adama is walking the halls on his way to the funerals when Helo approaches him. He wants to take Athena and a Raptor so they can search for Hera. Adama refuses and tells Helo he has to move on and he is there to take orders. Helo tells Adama he's the one in denial and that the Galactica is dead but his daughter may not be. Helo apologizes and Adama grabs his shoulder and walks away.
We see 3 distinct services at the funeral for the repair team casualties. Adama leads the standard military service while Baltar leads a service in his vision while Caprica Six leads them in a prayer that mentions the "Heavenly father!" That was amazing by the way! After the funeral, Baltar professes to the crowds that there is life after death and it doesn't come from ressurection, rather rebirth from an unknown source. He outs Karas death and confirms that she died on Earth a long time ago yet she is back with them as an Angel. Adama tries to stop Baltar but Kara races to him and slaps him stupid. Everyone leaves while peering at Kara suspiciously. Lee is left standing totally speechless.
At the memorial wall, Lee approaches Kara and tells her he doesn't care who or what she is. All that matters is that she's still here. Kara smiles as Lee walks away. She then replaces the picture of her next to Kat from when she originally died.
Adama removes his pips and goes into his quarters where he absolutely loses his cool and breaks down. He's realized that the time has come for him top let the Galactica go.
Boomer arrives at the massive colony hovering in space. She reluctantly hands Hera over to Cavil. He tells Boomer that she will be taken care of. Cavil tells Hera not to worry as she'll have all sorts of new playmates soon. Hera cries out for Boomer and this makes Boomer cry.
Starbuck returns to Sam's side and talks to him about accepting that the old him and her are gone. She feels he can help her figure out what the notes and the song mean and that she will sit with him until they figure it out. She plugs him back in and he says "new command?"
Tigh comes to Adama's quarters and Bill tells Saul they're abandoning ship. Tigh doesn't want to agree but Bill explains that the Galactica is dying and they owe it to her to go out with a bang. They drink a toast to the Galactica...the grandest lady in the Fleet.
Finally...It COULD happen?
