Knight, if you read this, I'm sorry I was late getting into the chat.  I completely forgot today was Friday (week's been kinda chaotic).

This thought has been in my mind for a while now, and I wanted to know what your opinion was regarding it.

I am convinced that Battlestar Galactica is an achievement in entertainment history that is unmatched by a long shot. In the next couple of posts I'm going to share my own reasons for why exactly I believe there is no show or even movie in the same league as BSG.

Now that I know BSG is ending, and I know there will be a big black hole left in it's place, I'm trying to find another show that I can basically watch and try to occupy myself with. However, the overwhelming feeling I get is that once a person has watched Battlestar Galactica, everything pales in comparison.

We are in a SciFi community here, so there is perhaps a few who might know what I'm talking about when I say watching Battlestar Galactica is akin to the feeling an Aes Sedai gets when they channel the One Power in the late Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. When one draws upon the True Source and Channels the One Power they feel a thousand times more alive, and if they are not careful, they can burn themselves out by drawing too much on it. And yet, when they stop Channeling, life becomes as dull as it had become enhanced in the first place.

I'm wondering if I'm the only person feeling this way about this show, and if not, for what reasons do you think Battlestar Galactica is truly on a league of it's own when it comes to motion picture entertainment.

I will express my own reasons shortly Smiley

I layed out the cabin today. It's gonna have an easternly view. You should see the light we get here when the sun comes up from behind those mountains. It's almost heavenly. Reminds me of you. - Admiral William Adama

I get where you are coming from.  My Friday nights are going to look significantly different.  There are other shows to watch (Dr. Who, Torchwood), but none will fill the void left by Battlestar Galactica.

I totally agree that BSG is an "achievement in entertainment."  I love the camera work, the up close and personal shots, the CGI, the writing, and the acting.  It is the best show on television.

Adalla and I talked about this the other day, while one aspect of BSG, the series, is ending, there is a chance for us, the fans to carry on the work.  We just have one part of the overall story.  There are more stories to be told.  It's up to us to tell them.  It's the same thing that happened to TOS with the invention of the internet.  There was a resurgence in fan fiction, MUSHs, and websites dedicated to the show.  The story continued to be told.  As a BSG community, it not becomes our job to continue to tell the story.

I agree that the absence of BSG will be hard. Hopefully Caprica will captivate as much as BSG. I think with BSG ending it is an end of an Era of television where great dramas ruled the airwaves that started with shows like The Sopranos.

BSG set a new bar standard in Science Fiction, lets hope that another show will come out to equal or rival that.  Lets hope Caprica will be that show.

I just don't know what it is..
But I indeed have an enormous love for Battlestar Galactica. I mean the new series, since I never watched the old, and probably won't.
It just has.. something.. it makes me happy and sad at the same time whenever I watch it.
I get this feeling of serenity, whenever I see it. And it doesn't even have to be an interesting episode or anything, I just like that feeling.. like I am there, not just watching it on a screen.

It captivates me so much, the whole beauty of it, and I find it hard to express it in real words, so I babble without point in this post.

What I just want to say is, Battlestar Galactica is not a TV Series, it is a masterpiece of art, one which I hope can be replaced by something else after it is gone.

Battlestar Galactica is not television. It is art in it's best light, full of beauty and hidden meanings.

I know exactly what you mean. And It's not even the big actions that get me. As cool as they are. It's the profound moment with the characters that gets me every time.
