Episode 420 : Daybreak Part 1
By Major A-Dog
We begin with a montage of visions...the Universe, a dove flying against a sun filled backdrop, a sunrise over Caprica and finally water falling. We hover in over Caprica City "before the fall." Adama is going over his lifetime acheivement record with an official. He's being told to do something that will cost him an hour of his life yet Adama obviously feels the task is beneath someone whose had his amount of experience and responsibility. We then zoom in on a limo carrying our beloved Dr. Gaius Baltar and Caprica Six, whom at this particular point in time seems to have just met Gaius. They discuss how he likes to have everything done for him while she prefers to rely as little as possible on others. They then make out in the back seat as the telltale music and bells that signifies Caprica Six's melody rings out. Gaius then gets a phone call that agitates him extremely. Flash to Laura Roslin laughing with her sisters after a baby shower for the one. Roslin looks young and so radiant and alive. We are then in an apartment that houses Kara Thrace. She is cooking and hears the doorbell. She answers it and we see the first ever face to face meeting of Kara and Lee. Kara calls for Zak Adama and FINALLY we get an alive Zak in the mix. Back at Baltar's house a nurse is livid and leaving the house after Gaius' father has stabbed her with an ink pen. His father is a real pip and quite funny all the while insulting Gaius to no end. Caprica Six tries to calm Baltar down to no avail and he sends her home. Laura Roslin's door bell rings. It's the Caprican Police. They come in and quite unceremoniously inform her that her sisters and her father were killed by a drunk driver. Roslin loses it and walks to the park in her pajamas. She wades into the fountain and lets it rain down on her. As the visions end we see an IV dripping and are jolted back to the reality that Roslin does not have much time left to live.
Down in the hangar deck Lee is overseeing the stripping down of the Galactica. Many captains are making exaggerated requests for equipment. Lee tell Dealino that they should save the magcellerators for last.
In Baltar's quarters Head Six tells Baltar that his time has finally come and that humanity's end is almost near. We flash back again and we see Baltar womanizing again as he finds Caprica Six has "broken" into his house. She says she's found a new place for his Dad to live. Gaius is all ears as she tells him all about it and then leaves.
Starbuck is working on cracking the pattern to the notes and the song to no avail. Tigh is giving directions to Hoshi who is wiping up a spilled coffee in the CIC. Helo and Chief are in the brig discussing how the Eights are and aren't all the same.
On the Colony, Cavil is discussing how special Hera is and how they intend to find out. Hera hasn't eaten in days and Boomer shows her maternal instincts to get Hera help.
Hot Dog is carrying Nicky through the halls and he drops the pictures of fallen pilots from the memorial wall. He didn't want to leave them behind. Adama helps him pick them up and then realizes he can't leave Hera behind.
Baltar is requesting a seat in the new government for "his" people. He requests just 5 minutes of Lee's time to explain his request and Lee grants it.
Adama and Starbuck are discussing the notes Hera wrote in Sam's room. Adama asks her if what Gaius said was true about her dying. She confesses it as truth and then plugs Sam in so Adama can ask some questions. In a real feel good moment, Adama tells Starbuck that he knows what she is...
his daughter. As she plugs Sam in, he has a flash back to an interview he did on TV after a Pyramid game. He talks about how all he cares about is the "perfect" moment. He then speaks Hybridese to Starbuck and Adama as follows:
"Spins and turns. Angles and curves. The shape of dreams half remembered. To slip the surly bonds of Earth and touch the face of perfection. A perfect face, a perfect lace. Find the perfect world for the end of Kara Thrace. End of line."
Baltar is pleading his case to Lee regarding the new life he wants to lead and that he wants the people he represents to have a voice in the government. Lee doesn't buy it and asks Baltar to give one example of the one time he did anything that didn't serve the needs of Gaius "Frakking" Baltar. Baltar says he doesn't blame Lee as he wouldn't trust himself either.
We are then flashing back with Lee supposedly the next morning after getting wrecked all night with Kara and Lee. He's chasing a dove that has somehow gotten into his apartment.
On the hangar deck Adama and Starbuck run a long line of red tape down the deck. Adama says he was wrong to not go after Hera and that anyone that wants to volunteer to go on a mission to save her may do so. Helo tells Athena that they're going for Hera. Helo is pumped but Sharon thinks Cavil has already killed her.
Roslin is flashing back to a phone conversation with a friend regarding blind dates and her distaste for going on long campaigns for President Adar. She gets out of her hospital bed, puts her wig and clothes on and joins Adama on the volunteer side of the hangar deck. Adama tells everyone to make their decision. Baltar almost goes but in true to Baltar form, stays on the side to not go. Chief looks at Tory and says "as if you got something better to do" and pulls her with him on the volunteer side.
Racetrack and Skulls are doing recon to the new proposed Colony site and find it sitting right next to a black hole. The command team (which fantastically includes Lee Adama back in uniform) decides on the best plan to get there and mount an attack.
