I dont have time right now, but let me just give you a preview:

CAPRICA ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!

Seriously, if they had not told me the name of the show, I'd have simply assumed it was a really flashback of a BSG episode.

You can tell the same people were behind the making of it, it has the same sense of awesomeness, the same depth, the same excitement, the same hair-raising effect that BSG had.

It IS BSG, just a different aspect of it.

And I liked the cast too, especially Zoe, really connected with her.

Wasnt too fond of the music unfortunately. The best part of it IMO were the BSG themes that were briefly used in some of the scenes!

But I mean it's not a bad score, just not as amazing as the BSG music I've come to love from Bear.

My comment from Capricast

Quote
Great to see you guys back!

Though I'm surprised at your pretty negative review of the Caprica DVD. At least that was my impression, because personally I loved every minute of it and to me the quality of it seamed seamless. It truly felt to me like a RDM/Eick production and writing.

I loved the cast, and I'm surprised you guys didnt like Zoe's actress. I thought she did fantastic and fits the role perfectly. She projects an aura of intelligence and passion that represents that character.

I absolutely loved the return of the epic ethics debate that RDM and co. make us think about like no other show (except Dollhouse...watch THAT for a total mind frak regarding ethics!). I loved the conflicts the characters faced, especially Joe Adama. I loved the CG of the Centurions it was very well done.

Overall I just loved the whole thing and I really hope the DVD makes millions so we can get this thing turned into a series.

I'm not so concerned about the plot, even if we know how it's going to end. RDM and Eick said that the very fact we know how it's going to end sets a great shadow over the whole thing and makes us appreciate and see the events that go on in the show from a perspective that we couln't have had if we didnt know how things would turn out. So in that way, the show is very special.

Sorry for taking so long to get the review completely done.  School is a busy thing.  Smiley  Now onto the review.

Before I begin....  BOOOOOOOOOOOBIIIIIIIIIIES! J/k :p

I was a bit hesitant in picking up "Caprica" on DVD because of the whole thing with "Razor" being included in the Season 4.0 Boxset when I already HAD it.  Also, I was hesitant because I wasn't sure about how good it was going to be, or if it was going to be as good as "Battlestar Galactica" was.  Yes, I knew it wasn't going to have fighting in spacecraft, humanity struggling for survival and all the other things that made "Battlestar Galactica" the way it was, but I mean as good as it was in quality for the story.  Me, one of the things I liked about the show was the realistic emotions of the characters, that includes the Cylon characters.  But one of the things that is appealing to me is that, though this story covers the creation of the 12 Colony Cylons, it deals with a set of characters we never truly got a chance to get their opinion on in the normal show, a character type I myself am hoping to cover for my machinima comic book fan fiction series: civilians!

The Characters:
Two families, Adamas (Adams) and Graystones.  Now, they're understandable.  I mean, I can understand why Daniel Graystone did what he did.  To look at it from Bill Adama's point of view from "Battlestar Galactica", you have to understand that losing a wife is one thing, but losing a child is another.   Does anyone recall how Helo and Athena reacted when they though Hera was dead?  Even more so, how Athena was and what she was thinking at the end of "Daybreak, Part 1", when Helo told her about Adama's plan?  Honestly, I do not think it was just out of vanity alone.  I feel he really cared about Zoey, even if she was stuck up and rebellious. Frankly, when it comes to Mrs. Graystone, her actions are expected.  I mean, who wouldn't slap Zoey for being a brat?  And who wouldn't feel sorry for doing it?  The only character that seemed out of place was Zoey.  It wasn't because of the actress who was playing Zoey that I had a problem with.  It was the fact that this teenager who resented everything about her parents (which would include her parent's talents), just so happen to secretly create an copy of herself in an online chatroom?  Seriously, if Zoey really disliked her parents, she wouldn't have gotten into programming (one of the aspects of her father's career) and creating a virtual copy of herself (It's practically the same reason why Lee decided to become a civilian and work for the government.  Baltar's trial was just the catalyst).  Now, when it comes to the Adamas, we finally get a face to place with the name on the lighter.  Again, his actions are also understandable and follows along the same lines of other similar BSG related relationships. Helo and Athena wanting to get Hera back (Season 3's "Rapture") and Adama staying behind in a Raptor to see Laura Roslin again (Season 4's "Sine Qua Non") are just two examples.  And his reaction with his daughter's AI was a little bit out of left field (How can Graystone gather all the information, create the AI of Adama's daughter, and NOT include the info about her true nature?  I mean, even AI Zoey knew that she was a copy and how she was made, and was in a place where she could interact with others!).  Anyways, the names are familiar, not just Adama, but Graystone.  I myself came across the name Graystone from a RIS BSG role-playing forum which I was briefly involved.  From what I recall from the Graystone character in the RPG, he was the descendant of "the man who created the Cylons." (and this was a year and a half before the end of the series and before "Caprica" was even a glimmer.  I do not know how the user who played the character knew about Graystone, but it must have been somewhere in lore before "Caprica" was released).

Settings: The whole setting and scenes in Caprica didn't feel at all out of place in comparison to what we've seen in the show.  To be honest, I was surprised to see the Vancouver Public Library again, since it came up before in Season 1's "Bastille Day".  Looking at it, I can't help but find it ironic that Helo and Athena passed by the same spot where Joseph Adama and Daniel Graystone met, and how Six and Doral were standing not too far away from it, too. :p  Also, and equally ironic, the V-Club's setting was shot in the inside of the Orpheum Theater, which we know it as "the Opera House".  Freaky deaky!  Also, I noticed that the walkways outside of the Adama apartment looks quite like the ones that we see in "Downloaded", where D'anna talks to Caprica about being a celebrity (just prior to introducing Boomer and the problem the Cylons are having with her).  And the Graystone's home gives off an eerie familiar feeling of Gaius Baltar's home.  Maybe it had the same home designer within the series' universe, perhaps?

Story: Basically, the story, to me, is Ron Moore trying to mix "Battlestar Galactica" with a bit of Richard Matheson's work and "Frankenstein" when it comes to the overall story.  But it seems rather weird that the father of the man who would lead the last remnants of humanity to Earth in the future is partly responsible for the rising of the 12 Colony Cylons.  I guess, by the way the story is being presented, that the sins of the father is forced onto the son later on, much like how the Old Man Adama did with his sons, Zak and Lee.  The thing I can't help but wonder is this: Getting rid of all A.I. Technology, I can understand especially with what is to happen with the Cylon War.  But what about the Holobands?  I mean, I'm surprised that technology didn't get overhauled and used by the mass public, both adults and children alike (instead of it being "just adults" and secretly taken by the teenagers, as it appears to come off in the Pilot).  I'm sure that the explanation of why VR and the Holobands being no longer used prior to "Battlestar Galactica" will be explained eventually.

So, in closing and over all....  I give "Caprica" a 4 and of 5 Centurions.  and I feel that this will become the logical heir to the "Battlestar Galactica" universe and give us more explanation about the past with the Colonies. I am hoping that the TV movies also expand the series more, as some fans want a story with Kobol that is official (though the closest now is the comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment).  But just because "Battlestar Galactica" is over doesn't really mean that it's truly over, just yet.  SO SAY WE ALL!
